Building Capacity Workshop Series - Nevada Community Health Coalition

The Nevada Community Health Coalition hosted a series of live workshops from June 2022 to March 2023 on a variety of topics designed to strengthen the capacity of community organizations to improve health outcomes across Nevada. These workshops are recommended for anyone involved in efforts to promote fair access to health resources and support community well-being. Workshop details can be found below on this page.

We have adapted the live workshop recordings into on-demand courses so that the content would be available for viewing at your convenience. The materials that accompany each workshop, including slide decks and handouts, are available for download.

Advanced Statistics: Analyzing Large, Secondary Data Sets

This workshop is designed to introduce researchers to the use of large, secondary data sets in health-related studies.

Advanced Statistics: Power Analysis & Sample Size

This workshop will provide an overview of the statistical concept of power analysis and how it can be appropriately utilized to determine an adequate sample size for designing studies.

Advanced Statistics: Small Samples and Pilot Studies

This workshop is designed to examine methods that are useful when only a small number of samples may be available.

Advanced Statistics: Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis

This workshop will provide an overview of how to design a systematic review, how to determine if studies should be included or excluded, and how to combine data from similar studies using meta-analytic approaches.

Advocacy

This workshop will explore different forms of policy, Nevada’s state legislative process, and the differences between advocacy and lobbying.

Building Data Capacity

This workshop will cover the value of data collection, how to store and manage data, and identify data resources.

Community Organizing

In this workshop we will review introductory concepts of community organizing through short case studies and explore tools to apply organizing methodologies to your daily practice.

Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR)

CBPR is a collaborative research approach where both the researcher and community share decision making and are equitably engaged through all phases of the process.

Grant Administration

In this introductory level workshop, interested community agencies will learn the basics of successfully searching, applying, and managing grants.

Grant Writing

This workshop will provide an overview of best practices for grant writing, geared specifically for non-profit organizations.
