Building Capacity Workshop Series
The Nevada Community Health Coalition hosted a series of live workshops from June 2022 to March 2023 on a variety of topics designed to strengthen the capacity of community organizations to improve health outcomes across Nevada. These workshops are recommended for anyone involved in efforts to promote fair access to health resources and support community well-being.

Strategies to Repair Equity and Transform Community Health
NCHC, in partnership with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health and the Nevada Office of Minority Health and Equity (NOMHE), was selected to participate in the Strategies to Repair Equity and Transform Community Health (STRETCH) 2.0 Initiative by the CDC Foundation. STRETCH 2.0 successfully expanded the capabilities of statewide partners to identify, respond to, and address health disparities in their local communities through skill-based training, targeted technical assistance, and the hosting of the 2024 Impact Summit.
Vaccine Health Equity Initiative (VHEI)
The Vaccine Health Equity Initiative (VHEI) aimed to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates among underserved and underrepresented communities.
Through a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach, we actively engaged with local organizations and community partners to develop targeted educational materials and outreach strategies to enhance vaccine navigation and services. In order to address disparities that contribute to vaccine uptake, our goal was to provide accurate, evidence-based information about COVID-19 vaccines, while addressing community concerns and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health.
Health Equity and Literacy (HEAL) Initiative
The Health Equity and Literacy (HEAL) Initiative sought to address inequities in COVID-19 outcomes and access to care among communities of color and low-income populations in Las Vegas. The HEAL Initiative increased organizational health literacy at four federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in Las Vegas by promoting the delivery of healthcare consistent with National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards. Greater organizational health literacy contributed to improved patient health literacy, particularly regarding COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccinations. Ultimately, increased organizational and patient health literacy was expected to strengthen patient trust in medical providers and enhance patient understanding of and participation in healthcare decisions.
COVID-19 Response: #OneCommunity Campaign
NCHC lead a statewide effort aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19 in Nevada, with specific emphasis on our most vulnerable populations. In order to do so, NCHC worked with community partners to develop the #OneCommunity campaign, which aimed to provide reliable information about COVID-19, engage community leaders and members as active participants in COVID-19 education and outreach, and disseminate culturally relevant information through various printed and digital sources.
Nevada Vaccine Equity Collaborative
The Nevada Vaccine Equity Collaborative (NVEC) was a partnership comprised of diverse and interdisciplinary members of the public, as well as private, state, and community partners, co-led by Immunize Nevada and the Nevada Community Health Coalition. Members of the NVEC included state legislators, community members representing different ethnicities and demographics, health care providers, faith-based leaders, public and private representatives. The goal of the collaborative was to promote the equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine throughout the state.
Mental and Behavioral Health Campaign
NCHC lead the development of a mental and behavioral health resilience toolkit to reduce stigma and empower diverse communities to access mental and behavioral health resources, specifically Latinx and Black/African American populations. Using a community based participatory approach, we worked with media firms that have expertise with the two populations in addition to consulting with community members around the state of Nevada. The resulting toolkits include a variety of media materials that can be used to prioritize mental wellness.
Racial & Ethnic Approaches to Community Health – SNHD
NCHC partnered with the Southern Nevada Health District to support the CDC’s REACH initiative, a national program focused on reducing racial and ethnic health disparities. Through community engagement, training, data support, and collaboration with local partners, NCHC helped advance tobacco prevention, healthy nutrition, and physical activity efforts in underserved communities across Southern Nevada.
